Salt Pond Restoration Project
Our most recent environmental project focuses on the restoration of San Francisco Bay's southern shoreline from industrial salt ponds to tidal marsh. State and federal agencies have pooled funds with four private foundations to purchase over 15,000 acres of salt ponds from the Cargill Corporation. The planned habitat restoration is massive, similar to the Everglades in scope, and will take years to accomplish. Pelican Media received a grant from the Resources Legacy Fund to begin the documentation process by taking still photos of existing salt-making operations and conditions at the recently purchased salt ponds, which ring the South Bay from Redwood City to Hayward. In addition, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation provided funding for a short introductory film, which is for sale in the Pelican Media store.
